Kinder students will be learning how to be respectfully assertive in September.  We will be using the book "Please Stop, I Don't Like That" to learn some new tools for assertiveness. 

Students in Grades 3-5 will be learning about the Mood Meter during their September lesson.  The Mood Meter allows us to identify our feelings not just by pleasantness or comfort, but also by energy levels.  Ask your child to share with you about where they were on the Mood Meter today!  

In the month of September, I will be doing a cognitive-behavioral, social emotional lesson with 1st - 4th grade.  We will be working through the book, What is a Thought? by Jack Pransky and Amy Kahofer.  Will be discussing how powerful our thoughts are and how they control our emotions. 

In Mrs. Alkire's class, we were the thoughts and the sheet was our feelings. 

During September, students in Kinder through 3rd will be learning about self and social awareness.  We will read They Way I Feel by Janan Cain to learn about the 2 types of feelings: comfortable and uncomfortable.  Students will learn to identify if a feeling is comfortable or uncomfortable and to use "I Messages" (I feel _____ when_____) to share their feelings.  Listen for your child to use "I Messages" at home.
